Bristol Accord - Conclusions of Ministerial Informal on Sustainable Communities in Europe

The purpose of the Informal Meeting in Bristol (6- 7 December 2005) was to discuss and agree the benefit to all Member States of creating sustainable communities across Europe. The “Bristol Accord”, sets out eight characteristics of a sustainable community; and (ii) contains an agreement to compile good practice case studies that demonstrate sustainable communities’ characteristics to an agreed template. Building on the Rotterdam Urban Acquis’ principles of effective urban policy-making, the Bristol Accord comprises characteristics of successful places - both urban and rural.
