ESPON-INTERSTRAT Final Event in Edinburgh

Publication date:2012-03-29, Last updated:2013-04-05

Day 1: Critical review of INTERSTRAT

Day 2: “Positioning urban Scotland in its European context” – What can we learn about benchmarking?

Date: 29-30 March 2012

Venue: Edinburgh, UK

The aim of the first day of the event is to stimulate a debate, gather information and ensure that all the information necessary for the submission of the Final Report has been captured in a systematic and comprehensive way by all partners. For the purpose of the event, it is important that we focus on the process of developing and implementing the Integrated Territorial Development Strategies and most importantly what impact they had on stakeholders. To maximise the impact of the event and to ensure that messages are drawn it is essential that all partners collect and report the statistics (e.g. number of visits on the national INTERSTRAT webpages). The focus of the event will be on evaluation, feedback, impact and lessons learned. There will be valuable techniques for stakeholder engagement that other the CU and other ECPs involved in priority four projects will find useful.

The aim of the second day of ESPON-INTERSTRAT event is to bring together policy makers and practitioners involved in planning, economic development and European funding in Scotland to consider the current situation of Scotland's urban areas in a European context, and to identify opportunities for urban-based initiatives up to and beyond 2020.
The conference will provide a unique opportunity for focused dialogue between practitioners and researchers from Scotland and elsewhere in Europe. The recent announcement of the Agenda for Cities and the new orientation of Cohesion Policy post-2013 make this a timely opportunity to connect Scotland and the EU's main territorial development observatory.
